Admission for all Indian students is as per the norms of the Government of Karnataka (GoK). NMIT admits students through Entrance tests such as CET, COMED-K, PGCET, GATE, KMAT and others. Students are also admitted under Management quota.

Government of Karnataka conducts Common Entrance Test (CET) normally in the month of April every year. Students domiciled in Karnataka can apply for this test and the allotment of the seats is done online. 45% of the seats of the total intake are to be filled through CET. In addition to this, 5% of super numerary quota seats are also made available for the meritorious- economically weaker students with the tuition fee waiver provision. Consortium of private colleges of Karnataka conducts this test normally in the month of May every year. BothKarnataka & Non-Karnataka students can appear for this test. 30% of the seats of the total intake are to be filled through COMED-K test. The student should have passed 2nd PUC / 12th standard or equivalent examination with English as one of the languages and obtained 45% of marks in aggregate in Physics and Mathematics along with Chemistry / Bio-Technology / Computer Science / Electronics / Biology. In case of candidates belonging to Karnataka Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and other Backward Classes (Category I, 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B), the minimum marks for the purpose of eligibility will be 40% of marks in aggregate in the optional subjects in the qualifying examination.

Admission to M.Tech course shall be open to candidates who have passed the prescribed qualifying examination (B. E./B.Tech) as specified in ANNEXURE with not less than 50% marks in aggregate of all the all the semesters/years of the degree examination. (Cumulative sum of secured marks of all the semesters/ years divided by the sum of maximum marks). However, in case of candidates from Karnataka belonging to SC/ST and Category-1, aggregate marks shall not be less than 45%.
Entry qualifications acquired through Distance Education mode are not considered for admission to VTU M.Tech programmes
The academic eligibility is determined by considering all the subjects reflected in the marks cards of qualifying examination i.e., including audit courses and additional subject which are not considered for award of degree.
