About the Lab
The Intel® Unnati Data-Centric Labs at Department of Electronics and Communication, Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology (NMIT), Bengaluru, is a state-of-the-art facility designed to foster innovation and research in the field of emerging technologies. This lab, established in collaboration with Intel®, provides a unique platform for students, researchers, and faculty to explore, experiment, and excel in various data-centric technologies.
Addressing the Skill Gap
Today, there is a wide, and growing, skill gap between technical graduates and IT industry expectations. To propel India’s digital economy transformation, it is imperative that the higher education system in the country bridges this gap by developing new curricula and offering courses in emerging technologies. The National Education Policy 2020 recognizes this need and stresses the importance of greater industry-academic linkages, and for higher education institutions to focus on research and innovation.

- AI-IoT: Integrating Artificial Intelligence with the Internet of Things to create intelligent and connected solutions.
- Artificial Intelligence (AI): Developing and deploying AI models using Intel® technologies, enhancing capabilities in predictive analytics, natural language processing, and more.
- Machine Learning (ML): Leveraging advanced ML algorithms for data analysis and decision-making.
- System on Chip (SoC): Designing and implementing custom hardware solutions for specific applications.

Specialized Facilities:
- AI Research Lab: A hub for advanced AI research and development, equipped with state-of-the-art tools and technologies.

Intel® OpenVino™ labs will be run on Intel® DevCloud for the Edge, leveraging the 4th Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors, which offer a balanced architecture that delivers built-in AI acceleration and advanced security capabilities.
Programs and Initiatives:
Students at NMIT could be part of various prestigious programs under Intel, including:
- Intel® Unnati Industrial Training: This program provides a unique opportunity for students to work for one month on industry-relevant problems using emerging technologies under the guidance of industry mentors.
- Intel® Unnati Grand Challenge: A platform for students to work on real-world, high-impact, industry-relevant problems. Besides the chance to win exciting prizes, students enhance their problem-solving skills, get exposure to industry perspectives, and network with technology experts from Intel India and collaborating institutions.
- Intel® Unnati Catalyst: Designed to support organizing events like conferences, workshops, and contests to help faculty and students enhance their knowledge of new and emerging technologies. This program also aims to bring out the innovation skills of students, with preference given to institutions with Intel® Unnati Labs.
- Intel® Unnati Ignite: Offers workshops that expose students and faculty to industry-relevant technologies through interactive sessions with industry experts. At least two workshops are organized each quarter.
- Intel® Unnati Research Launchpad: Encourages faculty at Unnati institutions to increase their focus on research by providing monetary grants for original research on problems identified by Intel India related to new and emerging technologies.
