NMIT was sanctioned as an Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre (IEDC) by National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board, (DST- NSTEDB) New Delhi, in April 2010. The focus of IEDC is to develop innovative products and promote the spirit of Entrepreneurship among the students. NMIT-IEDC has association with Professional bodies such as Indian STEPs and Business Incubators’ Association (ISBA), National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN) etc.
Project at IDEC have tenure of five years with a total funding of Rs. 45 Lakhs. Given below are details on a few of the Innovative projects developed by students under the mentorship of an expert faculty.
PROJECT #1: DOOR SENSING MOBILE ROBOT (DOSEMOR)
The DOSEMOR robot is capable of moving autonomously in a given environment. The robot is navigated by sensor intelligence. The robot detects door and the degree to which the door is open. If the door is open wide, the robot enters the room.
PROJECT #2: BLIND NAV
Blind NAV is a camera based application for supporting the navigational of a vision impaired Person. The product identifies obstacles in the path and alerts the user about the obstacle. It guides the user around the obstacle.
PROJECT #3: DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF HUMANOID ROBOTIC HEAD
A Humanoid Robotic Head was designed and developed to mimic human facial expression. Kinematic linkage mechanisms facilitate the multiple facial expression of a robot.
BUSINESS INCUBATOR
NMIT has also established ‘Business Incubator’ (BI) - under the NMCP scheme “Support for Entrepreneurial and Managerial Development of SMEs through Incubators” of the MSME, Govt. of India. The MSME supports a funding of Rs.6.25 lakh per incubate.
