The Department of Computer Science & Engineering always encouraged the students to take up the live projects in the area of individual interest and connects students to the industries through collaborations and supports them. A few teams\batches of students fromevery batch participate in industry-sponsored live projects under the able guidance of the faculty members and Industry experts as external guides. Such application based projects have fetched them international recognition through compitions or through placements.
An annual students Project Exhibition is a key event of CSE Department, to inculcate the idea of innovation in various emerging technologies such as Robotics, Internet of Things (IoT), Big data, Cloud computing, Mobile apps, Drones and Wireless Sensor Networks. Every year 60+ live projects which results in Paper Publications and Patents.

A freestyle racing drone that attains speeds of up to 120 kmph, are used for medical aid especially during emergency organ transportation. The drone is used with the First Person View method of piloting for complete control. It is also usable to take cinematic shots with different angles and flexibility that even the expensive drones over Rs 2 lakhs, fail to provide. Since this drone is fast, it can be used to film rallies and Motorcross.
It is a TBS discovery capable of navigating to the GPS coordinates fed into it. The prototype managed to attain GPS precision nearing to 5 cms under complete satellite connections along with an endurance of up to 15 mins.
The device is a combination of a Drone and a Rover to deploy bombs and to behave as a security unit. Built as a proof of concept for the Indian ARMy awarded 1st place at the NMIT Hacks 2020(Team members: Prasanna, Anurag, Daarun, 4th Semester, CSE)
Safety of Human life in water
When a person is lost in the sea, trackers tend to follow a time-consuming procedure to save the victim’s life. To overcome the time delay of searching operation, the prototype developed helps to detect/sense the victim’s heart rate, the depth of water indicating the victim’s location, and surrounding water pressure. When the recorded value falls below the threshold value, an auto-deploy the airbag is riggered and the concept is useful when the victim is unconscious. An option for manual deployment of the airbag shall also be provided. Once deployed, the kit implements LoRa technology to transmit the victim’s data wirelessly to long distances. Upon receiving the signals, the rescue teams can initiate the rescue operation. The final analysis demonstrates that this kit will be very useful in ensuring one’s safety at the sea.

"Avadhatra" is a Revolutionary Shoe in which a shoe is well-equipped with an accelerometer, gyroscope, pulse rate sensor, and blood pressure sensor to update the user of their health status on a Native app where the data is transferred via Bluetooth. In this hectic everyday life, it is hard to keep track of our fitness status. The data is then stored on a cloud server from where the user can access the data anytime anywhere. The data stored is used to constantly to create a better user experience through the use of Machine Learning. The product just gets better with time.
A person’s security is a necessity for his/her family and friends and one of the best ways to protect yourself without hARMing anyone comes with this shoe. The superlative security system is built-in the shoe as hard work and smart work go simultaneously, our fast-paced lives demand more from the technocrats.

Easy Toll is a Blockchain-based Geofencing-Bluetooth-BLE-Beacon smart toll collection and remittance, crowd management, and decongestion application that allows blazing-fast automated online/offline payment in toll booths that could significantly reduce the congestion and queue caused by time-consuming applications that we are using currently. The current system relies on NFC that has problems such as NFC reader not recognizing the person, the requirement of an extra NFC device, it has to be recharged and toll gate provider has to maintain the system.
On reaching a 100 m vicinity of the toll booth, the user is recognized using geofencing. After the user does the OTP based payment, that amount (prepaid wallet) is deducted and the remaining balance alert is popped. BLE recognizes devices and pairs them instantaneously such that an auto command opens the gate once the toll fare is paid. The option of offline payments with the help of Blockchain is also made available.
Research Status: The work is in the implementation stage.
Outcomes: The design work is presented in IEEE Make-A-Thon.

Different smart traffic management techniques are implemented to change the traditional preset waiting time at the signal which causes most of the congestion on the road. The proposed framework plans to calculate the amount of traffic by utilizing IR sensors to determine the degree of traffic on the road. When the IR sensor detects high density a shorter waiting time is given to the particular lane to reduce density. This method uses real-time data and changes accordingly to the traffic and doesn't refer to any stored data. These levels are delegated low, medium, and high . It also can control signals through an app in case of emergencies.
Research Status: Under the design phase.
Outcomes: Paper submitted to ERCICA..
Designing an Artificial eye which will work as same as human eye to find, identify, calculate the distance between multiple objects, to declare the friendly and non-friendly objects or living being by using Deep Learning, Machine Learning(ML) and Artificial Intelligence(AI). Using Deep Learning it finds the objects and living beings and identifies the type of object and type of living being. Using ML it the distance between multiple object's image frame and will distinguish the movement like coming towards or outwards. Using the output of Deep Learning and ML the AI will categorize the objects and living beings between a friendly and Non-friendly category.
Faculty: Mr. Chethan D Chavan, Asst. Professor Application: An artificial eye can be used for partially visually impaired persons, for a humanoid robot. This can be used in surveillance technology, in Home/office security CCT, in Home/office automation technology etc.
Status of this project: Detection and identification of Human being, Declare Human beings gender and predicting the age and Currentl y working on identifying various types of objects in the image frame

The students of Computer Science and Engineering have formed a student community, INCOGNITO in association with Coding Ninjas. This was inaugurated on 15th August 2020. The student community aims to guide, teach, and learn coding in various domains. Faculty members Dr. Vasanthakumar G. U. (Asst. Prof., CS&E) and Mr. Chethan D Chauvan (Asst. Prof, CS&E) will be monitoring and mentoring the activities of this community. The Department of CSE conducted the coding event in association with the incognito Club on 15th August 2020. The event was inaugurated by our beloved Principal Dr. H. C. Nagaraj, Dr. Thippeswamy M. N., HoD, CSE, and faculty coordinators.
The club of CSE students is student-driven body set up with the mission to “evolve, inspire, involve, innovate and implement” techniques and solutions utilization of emerging technologies in areas of Science and Technology to solve societal problems.
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering has an excellent placement record, showing higher CTC, breaking its own record every year. The year 2019-2020 has been a significant year with many international companies visiting the campus for placements. To our pride, 7 students from our Department have been hired by prestigious companies in Tokyo, Japan with highest salary package of 25LPA and an average package being 4.5 LPA. Value addition such as live industry associated projects starting during 6th semester, the Department having MoUs with prestigious Companies, make them more confident to attend the interviews.
The Department actively arranges the sessions to train the students for placements. During in-house placement training, right from 4th-semester students are trained to equip themself to crack the technical aspects of the recruitment. Also, students are encouraged to take up internship work within the college, or working on the industry assigned projects. These will give valuable additions to their resumes, making them more confident to attend the interviews.
With every passing year, the students of Computer Science and Engineering are getting consistently good passing percentages. The table shows the result analysis of the 3 passed out batches.
