In order to provide its students niche skills and opportunities in frontier areas of engineering and technology, the Department of EEE, NMIT started Power Engineering Centre of Excellence on 4 th September 2019. The concept of this COE was introduced with the idea of converging power electronics, power systems and power system protection leading towards Electro-Mobility which is a much-needed skill of the society. As more than 200 companies are recently started the manufacturing of electric vehicles and providing the charging facilities throughout the country as part of green technology revolution, this will create more premium jobs in core companies like Telco, Titan Engineering automation solutions, ABB, Siemens, etc., to a name a few. Tools like EPLAN, ETAP and Mi-Power will prepare the students with efficient engineering practices much needed in emerging areas like industry 4.0, Industrial Automation, Assembly line automation, Machine building, predictive maintenance, etc. Thus, this centre aims to skill the students with much needed emerging technologies and engineering solutions of the current and future industry. It will prepare them to aspire for premium opportunities in core engineering and technological areas.
The centre has 30 computers in the lab with the power backup. It has many software and hardware facilities such as 15 user license of EPLAN, 5 user license of ETAP, 5 user licenses of Mi-Power, PSCAD, ARM University Program, Cypress University Program, FPGA kits, FPAA kits, Analog Discovery kits, Power System Protection kits, DSP kits, Microcontroller kits, etc.
Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and IEEE Students Branch at NMIT, Bangalore, inaugurated IEEE Power Electronics Society, IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, IEEE Branch chapter on 22nd December 2022.
Dr. Kaushik Basu, Associate Professor, Dept. of Electrical Engineering, IISC, Bengaluru was the Chief Guest. Mr. Vishal Anand, Senior Principal Engineer, Bloom Energy Chair, IEEE PELS, Bengaluru section, and Dr. Prema V, BMSCE, Vice-Chair, IEEE PELS, Bengaluru section were the Guest of Honor.
Faculty members are trained to enhance their skills and to keep themselves updated according to the growing industrial demands. Following training programs are conducted:

PECOE strives to support UG and M. Tech students through various projects. Some of the UG projects in the area of relay coordination, battery management systems, microgrids, electric vehicle are executed. Few PG projects in the area of Renewable Energy are completed under the COE. Various other projects based on ETAP, EPLAN and Mi-power is planned. Their applications in power systems, renewable energy systems, microgrids, power system protection, etc will be explored.
The CoE is associated with many industries like TechApps Consulting Pvt. Ltd., PRDC, Starcom, and many other Electric Vehicle companies. In addition, the department of EEE has MOUs signed with Craffiti Consulting Pvt. Ltd. and Venjay Automation Pvt. Limited for training of the students working in this COE.
