'There is a need of establishing
'Bamboo Development Board' on the lines of Coffee Board, Cardamom Board etc. to
encourage Bamboo growers. This facility will help farmers to market their
products in a systematic way', opined Punati Sridhar (IFS Retd.), Chairman, Bamboo Society
of India, while inaugurating 'NMIT Sustainability Club' at Nitte
Meenakshi Institute of Technology, Bengaluru. This Club, affiliated to Bamboo
Society of India, is dedicated to do technological research on the optimum
utility of Bamboo to replace steel being used in the construction of building,
in phased manner.
K.P. Murthy, NFC Member of the
Society was the Guest of Honor. In his speech he stressed upon the in-depth
research to be undertaken on strengthening the Bamboo with the help of
technology for the use of the same in construction and Infrastructural
development activities. Prof. N.R. Shetty, Chancellor, Central University
of Karnataka presided over the function. In his speech he said, 'If each of
us does our part, in all respect of our lives, we can retain and extend all the
benefits of human ingenuity in a way that puts us back in harmony with Nature'.
Dr. H.C. Nagaraj principal briefed
the importance of the Sustainability Club. Rohit Punja, Administrator, Nitte
Education Trust; Dr. V. Sridhar, Dean (Academics), NMIT; Dr. Bharati Ganesh,
Head, Dept. of Civil Engineering; Dr. Sumaraj, Chairperson, NMIT Sustainability
Club; Conveners of the Club Dr. Megha Kulkarni and Dr. Arun Kumar were present
on the occasion.
