The department offers a 4-Year Bachelor of Engineering (B.E) program in Information Science and Engineering with an intake of 180 students. The program is autonomous and is affiliated to Visvesvarya Technical University (VTU). Permanent affiliation has been granted for the program by VTU till the academic year 2022-23. The B.E Program has been accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) under the Tier-1 scheme (Equivalent to Washington Accord) in the year 2014 and also in the year 2021.

To build a strong research and teaching environment in the field of Information Technology to meet the ever evolving global needs and to equip students with the latest knowledge, skills and practical orientation to face challenges in IT profession.

Process used for establishing the PEOs

Program Coordinator, PAC and DAC are involved in establishing the PEOs.

The process of establishing PEOs are as follows:

  • PAC will refer the guidelines of NBA while establishing PEOs.
  • PAC will formulate few PEOs which are in line with departmental mission statement.
  • PAC will discuss about the attainment levels in terms of percentage.
  • PAC will refer NASCOM and Government reports for further refinement of PEOs
  • Formulated PEOs are Presented to DAC
  • DAC will go through the PEO Statements, approve/suggest modifications.
  • PAC will refine the selected PEOs according to the suggestions given by the DAC.
  • Finalized PEOs with their target attainment level are presented to IQAC
  • PAC will publish finalized PEO statements.

Programme Outcomes (POs)

PO-1 Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems. .
PO-2 Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences
PO-3 Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations
PO-4 Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
PO-5 Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
PO-6 The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
PO-7 Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.

Project: AI-based application for real-time conversation transcription and speaker diarization

As part of the victory, the team won USD 300 and other additional prizes

A global online Ethereum hackathon, EtherPunk 2021 was a call to ARMs bringing together thousands of developers, industry experts, advisors, mentors, and companies to innovate and build decentralized applications with the potential of mass adoption. The hackathon was held from 22nd January to 1st March 2021.

Project:

Pachisi is a new take on prediction markets. It focuses on making customers more user centred. It’s a very simple place where users could earn for being right. The traditional prediction markets overwhelming and are not user friendly. Moreover, they require customer to deposit funds with them.

"EthOnline" is biggest International Hackathon in Etherium Ecosystem organized by EthGlobal. Vitalik Buterin, Co-founder of Etherium witnessed the event. There was 500+ participants from around the world. Spark University Hackathon – An International Hackathon

The Spark Hackathon conducted on 1st September 2020 for university developers and hackers to build a blockchain project

Mr. Sarang Parikh ranked third place with prize of 500 Pounds and 300 Filecoin Tokens in the challenge “Build a system for storing and verifying scientific or other research data on Filecoin”. These 300 Filecoin will be used to continue the project which is worth upwards of 6000 USD.

Decentral Hacks

It is a community-driven hackathon that spans over an entire week and encourages developing blockchain centric solutions that can affect social good, especially in fields like FinTech, Healthcare and education. Mr. Keshav Mundra, 2nd year student awarded Best Dapp on Matic network. He built Dapp using Ethereum blockchain and ipfs to handle and store all important documents and certificates

Protecting Privacy Virtual International Hackathon

"Protecting Privacy Virtual International Hackathon” was organized by Maker/Near Proto/ Gitcoin, USA which aims to build a wide range of privacy-focused projects to help its users protect data/ money in the face of increasing surveillance by both state and corporate actors. Hackathon was witnessed by more than 1000+ Students/Professionals.

MIT Bitcoin Expo 2020

Mr. Sarang Parikh, 4th year student has India in MIT-Bitcoin Expo 2020 (Annual Bitcoin and Blockchain conference) held at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, US. The conference and hackathon is the most prestigious moment for bitcoin and blockchain community.

Mr.Sarang Parikh had to undergo a rigorous stringent evaluation process during the competition, being one among 100+ most talented participants across the world. He was one among only 4 students selected from India, other selected candidates were from IITB, DTU and VIT, who were provided with scholarship to participate.

Indian Team proposed a solution "Zero Knowledge Box - For provable identity without revealing private information" and emerged as the winner under the Infrastructure Track with a Prize money USD2500.

UC Berkeley- CalHacks

Mr. Yash Jaiswal of 2nd Year ISE won Grand Prize in International Hackathon “CalHackshack:now” a Hackathon organised by UC Berkeley, a 36-hours online international-level hackathon with a theme COVID-19. Participants were from industry and reputed Institutions/Universities from all over the world.

His team built a platform for reliable information dissemination to the masses by implementing an NLP-based IVR chatbot (similar to an Alexa which could be hosted on a phone number). Through this the user can dial the phone number and talk to the chatbot instead of the conventional ways where a Chatbot is hosted on a mobile or web app.

It is a glorious moment for NMIT and the Department of Information Science & Engineering.

This is the 4th consecutive year our students have proved themselves to capable of winning the award in Prestigious National Level Hackathon organized by Govt. of India.

2nd Year students of ISE emerged as Winners under Amazon Web Services (AWS) Track. They have been awarded a cash prize of INR 1 Lakh. The department forum “Sangyartham”The department forum “Sangyartham”, which means ‘Collaborative progress’, is the techno-cultural wing of the Department of Information Science and Engineering. Under this banner the department has established Technical Clubs/Student Chapters to provide a Collaborative Learning Platform for the students. These clubs/student chapters are student driven bodies mentored by faculty coordinator.

Hackathons

Hack Club NMIT conducted an offline event, a 24-hour Mini Hackathon on 27th-28th of November 2021 exclusively for 2nd students. The hackathon encompassed the current in-demand domains of technology with a large cash prize pool of 10,000 INR to be won.

India is celebrating Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav to mark 75th year of Independence. Coinciding with this auspicious occasion, Aadhaar is moving to the next decade of its existence, with a renewed objective to further improvise resident experience. To celebrate this occasion, UIDAI is hosting a Hackathon targeted at young innovators - who are still at various Engineering institutes and eager to step into the real world. The hackathon is starting on 28 Oct 21 at 0000Hrs and would continue till 31 Oct 21 up to 2300Hrs. The Hackathon is organized under two broad themes - “Authentication reimagined” and “Enhanced enrolment experience”.

Faculty achievements

Dr. Mohan S.G, The department of ISE has successfully installed the Moodle Learning Management System from the beginning of this academic year. All the faculty members and students are enrolled in the system. Currently, the LMS has a user base of 675 and many other departments are willing to use it.

Placement Training

In a challenging market environment, the Department and the Institute have developed strong ties with recruiting firms and service providers who provide:

  • Problem solving techniques to enhance the programming / coding skills.
Internship

Department deputes students on industry-based internships. Students earn academic credits with an internship which is a part of curriculum with academic credits. Most Students who do internships get job offers from the companies where they interned.

Department has a tie-up with Vishwaniketan’s Institute of Management Entrepreneurship & Engineering Technology which provides summer Internship program for 2nd and 3rd year students at reputed Foreign Universities.

Higher Education

The Department has MoUs with reputed competitive examination training institutes to provide GATE coaching for students. Institutes such as AECC Global, GATE Academy, Uniaway conduct sessions to educate students on competitive examinations like GATE, JRE, TOEFL, IELTS etc

Institute has an MoU with North Dakota State University-USA for a six months immersion program in final semester. Students in this program also get admissions to PG programs in reputed Universities in US with scholarships.
