The Department of Applied Sciences and Humanities teaches and promotes practical aspects of Applied Sciences and Humanities to build a solid foundation as part of the Engineering Education. The department prepares students for core engineering branches by educating them in the basic sciences of physics, chemistry and mathematics in the first year. "The Constitution of India" and "Professional Ethics" are two Humanities subjects that strengthen the civic sense and ethics of the students. Environmental studies make our students stewards of the environment that sustains us, our families and communities now and in the future.
Mathematics is indispensable for the engineering community. Students use mathematics to understand and solve engineering problems. The Department of Mathematics has 13 dedicated well qualified and experienced faculty. Eight of them have doctoral degree and remaining five are pursuing Ph.D program. The Mathematics department has the research centre recognized by VTU, Belagavi. 25+ papers on mathematics have been published in international journals and 15+ papers have been presented in national and international conferences.
Physics is crucial to the understanding of the world around us. Physics encompasses the study of the universe from the largest galaxies to the smallest subatomic particles. Physics is the basis of many engineering courses. The department of physics offers Engineering Physics courses to all engineering programs in semester 1 and 2. The department offers Ph.D. / M.Sc. (Engg.) research programs from Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum.
Like Physics, many of engineering subjects depend on chemistry. The faculty members for chemistry are committed to the students and to research. The teaching staffs of the department have published many papers on chemistry in national and international journals. The areas of research are nano science, medicinal chemistry, membrane technology and natural products.
The English Communication skills laboratory is an integral part of the department. Students receive training in written and verbal communication essential to succeed in the work place.
