The Department of Master of Computer Application (MCA) was established in 2006 with a sanctioned student intake of 60, and enhanced to 120 in the year 2012. The program is recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Karnataka, India.

The Department has been awarded Autonomous status from the Academic year 2016-17 by the University Grants Commission (UGC) Visvesvaraya and Technological University (VTU).

Visvesvaraya Technical University (VTU) granted the department with a Research Centre status in the year 2014.

The Department has faculty strength of 13 and is headed by Dr. Prasad N. Hamsavath. Some of the teaching staff have registered for PhD degree under VTU on recent research areas.

The Department of MCA organizes an International Conference on Emerging Research in Computing, Information, Communication and Applications (ERCICA) annually. ERCICA is a well recognized International Conference.

Several Faculty Development Programs, Seminars and Workshops are organized for the benefit of the Faculty and Students on various emerging areas and technologies on regular basis by inviting eminent professors and industry resource persons.

The Department has a students’ association forum namely SPARKS which improves the placement potential of MCA students.

VTU updates syllabus frequently and a wide range of electives like Web Technologies, Big Data, Data Mining, Cloud Computing etc., are being offered. The syllabus under the autonomous scheme is framed as per the current industry needs with the approval of the Board of Studies (BOS) members.
